this is a sign

In the end there may not be a grand epiphany. In the end you come back to the same quotes you’ve heard all along. These repetitive, familiar quotes that you heard so often that they seemed to lose meaning, end up being the truest words when they apply to your story.

Just as I love you feels meaningless to say until you’ve found true love.

I wrote this while thinking about my recovery and how I would influence others. I would only be able to say what they’ve heard all along: nourish your body, honor your hunger, love yourself. But words alone are not a vessel of action. They don’t instigate change.

It is the you who comes back to the words. Who realizes that their simplicity is reflected in your situation. That things were this simple all along and the solution is just as such. Then one day, those quotes, those eroded words, appear novel again. They strike your heart and you etch them onto your skin. A reminder of the past. A goal for the future.
